      Greetings

After many years of using m0n0wall, I switched to pfSense a few months ago. I have it running very well, but there are things I do not know much how to use and, as such, my knowledge falls short of my ambition. I have read very good things about the book pfSense: The Definitive Guide, and would purchase straight away. However, I plan to upgrade to pfSense 2 when it becomes stable, and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether this book will be updated for this coming version of pfSense. Perhaps the book is written as such that there really is no need to update it?

Thank you very much for any insight!

      Keith

I’m not sure if this is the proper forum for this question; of course, admins feel free to move it.

We will be writing a new version of the book for 2.0, but it will be a while. 2.0's interface is still in flux a bit, so doing screenshots and instructions isn't yet feasible. We haven't started writing the 2.0 book yet, so realistically it may be close to a year before it comes out.

A good portion of the book will be the same or similar, since there is a lot of basic theory and underlying knowledge there that isn't specific to any pfSense version (or any firewall, really).

Thank you for that, jimp. It's excellent to hear the book will be updated, but in the meantime I think I'll go ahead and order the current version—I should be able to afford a revamped edition in a year or so.  ;)

Figure 6.5 is missing in the book.

It's in the print copy. If you have a PDF copy missing images, contact the company you got the PDF from for an updated copy.

The only legitimate online sources of the PDF (BSD Perimeter for pfSense commercial support, and Applianceshop.eu) both have copies of the PDF with all images included.
