I tested downloading the 1.2.3 appliance and then opening it in a WMware server 1.09 console on Win64, that didn't work.

In announcement it is said this should work.

      Any ideas?

That is an extremely old blog post about 1.2.1, not 1.2.3. You probably need a newer version of VMware server, if that still works at all. The current 1.2.3 appliance does work on VMware player, workstation, and ESX.

I don't know if two years qualify as "extremely old" but nonetheless.

I don't really understand why server version isn't targeted as supported platform anymore then. I have one system running server and will continue to do so since it works well. Obviously I can always install it myself (which I have already done with 1.2.3-RELEASE).

Perhaps I should provide a WMware install based on server version for others to download then, for those that want it.

Two years and two releases behind I would consider extremely old, especially when you're talking about specific version compatibility.

As for why Server isn't a target, I'm not sure. Probably because at the time I'm not sure anyone had Server installed to see if it worked. Pretty much everyone has moved on to ESX.
