The last post in the What is a good Wireless NIC sticky post was dated 2008 and replies don't seem possible.

I have had good results with

          • USB: Tenda W311U and TP-Link TL-WN321G

          • PCI: TP-Link TL-WN651G which seems to have been replaced by the TL-WN350GD

All support access mode in pfSense 2.0.

I have been having poor luck with a Linksys WMP54GS v1.1. I have searched and have been unable to find anything when searching for "WMP54GS". Does anyone have luck with this card?

            Thx.

Unfortunately Linksys, D-Link, Netgear and some other suppliers have adopted the practice of changing chipsets in their cards without changing the model name. This makes it a bit of a lottery buying cards from such suppliers: the model name does not provide enough information to determine if the card uses a supported chipset.

Can you elaborate on "poor luck with a Linksys WMP54GS v1.1"? The card isn't recognised by a FreeBSD driver? It is recognised by a driver but you can't configure it? It is recognised but gives intermittent service? etc

It gives an error on the web GUI saying that it can only be assigned once (or something to that effect). I'll go put it back in the box and see what the errors are.

Is there a decent card that most people have luck with? I'll pay for one (ebay) if there is a known good type/brand that will be equally as good as a Linksys WRT54G router.

                  Thx.

                  EDIT: Here is the error:
The following input errors were detected:
Error creating interface with mode Access Point. The bwi0 interface may not support creating more clones with the selected mode.

So then I change it back to Infastructure and it will add - but I want access point.

The FreeBSD bwi man page says bwi supports station mode and monitor mode. I presume since it doesn't say it supports AP mode that it doesn't support AP.

I don't have a Linksys WRT54G router for comparison so I have no idea if the cards I have previously suggested will meet your requirement.

thx for the reply - I spent the $20 and bought a Cisco (AIR-PI21AG-A-K9 Cisco 802.11G PCI Wireless Adapter 2.4).

Hopefully that'll work, if not I just bought myself more junk
