What kind of server is the captive portal

I cant seem to find this but what kind of web server is the captive portal hosted on?  Is it Apache?  I may want to do some custom scripting options and i am wondering if there are limitations to the captive portal server itself.  I am sure there are.  I thought I remember reading its liteHTTP.  Thanks in advance

The webserver used for pfsense's CP (and webGUI) is lighttpd.

You can check the config files under /var/etc/lighty-*
