Problems with TP-LINK TL-WN781ND
-
Hi!
I'm having problems with a TP-LINK TL-WN781ND pci-e card which i'm using in hostap mode. Or rather, other devices are having problems with it ;) In my HTPC i have a TL-WN651G (an older 802.11g pci card). The HTPC can connect perfectly.
But other devices, like my gf's HTC Desire, Kindle and Macbook Air as well as my Samsung S3, can't connect. For example, the S3 says "authentication error occurred". I've tried many different kind of configurations (always WPA2 though, which is a must imo. Tried TKIP, AES and both as WPA Pairwise).
I'm running pfSense 2.0.1-RELEASE (amd64) and i'm running the TL-WN781ND in 802.11g mode only.
I recently rebuild my router into new hardware. However, i was previously running the same pfSense version with a TL-WN651G in hostap and then all the above mentioned devices could connect.
I can't find any relevant debug information in the logs.
Has anyone had similar problems with TL-WN781ND or have suggestion for me to move forward in troubleshooting this?
Here's my current ifconfig output for the device:

Sigh.. seems like i have to find another card then. Won't be super easy since i need a low profile pci-e card :-\

Have you tried a snapshot build of pfSense 2.1? 2.1 includes much more up to date device drivers than any of the releases,

Hi, sorry to hijack your thread but can I ask how you got the card to work? I have the same card and pfsense does not detect the card at all.

I know how you feel, Best thing to do is get a netgear WPN311 USB and use it as a temporary.

Hi,
Yep I had checked my card and i had the V2 version - card looks the same but differnet chipset. got a Dlink card and that works great.

Solved. With this pci-e wireless card I couldn't establish contention. My PC runs windows 7 64 bit. So I uninstalled the tp-link drivers and I installed atheros, the chipset drivers, from atheros site. Everything works OK, so far!
