Dramatically decrease RAM usage for squid.
It shouldn't be higher than 256MB I would suppose.

Is you "Memory cache size" of "8MB" your actual size or did you lower it ?
The memory cache size of 8MB is very low and should not be the problem of the high swap usage of your system.

But I re-read your first post and metioned that you are using snort which is using a big amount of RAM; too.
Not sure if it is enough to stop snort service to increase the amount of free memory.

Take a look at "DIAGNOSTICS -> SYSTEMACTIVITY" There you can see which process is using your RAM. Perhaps you can post a screenshot, too.

                Hey,

your squid configuration is NOT the problem of your high memory usage. (MB is the default and it is really less. I thought you would use a higher value like 256MB or more.

I do not know what the meaning of all processes in System Activity. I just want to have a look at the mem usage. Like you can see - clamd is using 199MB of RAM. I am not using HAVP but perhaps you should have a look at this package if you can lower there the RAM usage.

                    Hi,

I am not using HAVP. To block websites I am using squid and squidguard and scanning for viruses I am using Kaspersky Anti-Virus on every workstation.

But perhaps it would be easier for you not to stop or disable services you would like to use. Why not buying one more GB of RAM ?

i think i will upgrade to 2gb to check the performance .
