One Wi-Fi card many APs
-
Hi all,
is it possible to create 2 or more Access Points on the same wi-fi card?I configured a BRIDGE between a NIC (vr0) and WLAN (ath0_wlan1) created under my wi-fi card using "Wireless Tab" in Interfaces Menu; it works.
Now I would like to create an other WLAN interface (ath0_wlan2) and use it as AP for my guests.
I created a new interface ath0_wlan2 using the Wireless Tab and I set the mode AP for this interface too; so now I've 2 interface ath0_wlan1 and ath0_wlan2 set as AP. Then I created a new interface OPT3, when I try to assign the ath0_wlan2 to my new Interface (OPT3), the pfsense box restarts.Any suggestion?
Is it possible complete a setting as I want?Tnx

If you haven't already tried a snapshot build of pfSense 2.1 I suggest you try it because it has more up-to-date device drivers than any of the pfSense 2.0.x builds.

Unfortunately that's sort of the state of using VAPs. Some cards do support 4+ virtual APs but you don't know if you've exceeded your card's limit until the driver panics. I'm not sure if the driver behaves better on 2.1 for that or not. Possible, but without some conclusive testing, it's hard to say.
Usually Atheros cards support 4 VAPs.
