      Hello Everyone,

Traffic shaping is a nightmare to me in pfSense and I have failed it everytime I deployed it. Last time, all the Queues filled up and I wasn't able to browse anymore - slow like a turtle. Anyhow here is what I require and I have seen many requests for this on the forum as well. Maybe others pitch anywhere from $10 to more to make this happen.

I want a field option within each interface that will ask for:

      Upload Limit: ______________Mbps
      Download Limit: ____________Mbps

Once set, it will setup Traffic Shapping automatically with right settings to allow for limiting bandwidth to certain speed on that specific LAN or WAN port. So, for WAN port one will input the ISP speed and then maybe divide it 50/50 between two LAN ports. This will allow for dedicated 50% of bandwidth per LAN port.

What is the usage? This can be very handy in case of VoIP systems. I want dedicated VoIP on my Phone Port so I want to be able to do that without hassle. I am willing to test this feature heavily and help by being the guinea pig.

      Thanks,

It takes about 2 minutes to configure exactly that with limiters. Create two pairs of them, each with half the bandwidth, and assign accordingly on each LAN port. I could help you set that up for a donation of half the bounty, or all of it if you're feeling generous.  ;D

Don't I have to limit myself to a specific bandwidth when using limiters? I have a dynamic speed connection. If for example I limit two ports to bandwidth that I see right now and later on my bandwidth raises then I am not using that extra bandwidth that is available to me. Isn't that true?

          Thanks

You can't use any traffic shaping methodology if you don't know exactly what your bandwidth is.

What do you mean by dynamic bandwidth? You mean burst?

Well, this is a coax line that is shared by neighbores. At 4 PM when kids are back from school internet speed is almost half of what it should be. So, I can input a maximum download and upload limit that would be the same all the time.

Well send the money for donation to pfSense ;).

Duplicate the limiters indcated by cmb and create rules with schedules for the different hours you know there will be slower speed.
Configure the limiters for your desire.

It is difficult to estimate bandwdith speed without proper infrastructure and your budget :)
