[SOLVED] Getting Dropbox to bypass proxy server
-
Hi, i am running 2.0.3 on a small home network with 5 machines and i use dropbox to share files among them and with friends at remote locations.
i am running squid3 dev 3.3.5 and squidguard to filter out ads and other unwanted things for the network, i have a ca generated by pfsense which allows me to filter https traffic so i can block https ads too.
the other package i have installed is snort for ids.
the only problem i am having is that dropbox keeps complaining about being unable to connect to remote server which i believe is a result of squid proxying the https traffic.
so with being able to keep the https filtering is there any way to resolve this (keeping dropbox and without resorting to setting up my own ftp server) with rules or some kind of alias etc….
so far i've tried putting dropbox.com in the bypass proxy setting on the squid gui with no success.
bear in mind i've only had pfsense for about 5 days so i'm fairly new to the terminology and settings etc....
any help gratefully received.

managed to work it out using an alias with four urls for dropbox grouped together and then put the alias in the list for the proxy to bpyass and it did the trick.

I'm under the impression that SSL (which dropbox can use) doesnt work through proxy servers because its a security risk.
FWIW.

You can proxy SSL - just can't do it transparently.

you can proxy ssl transparently with squid dev3 and an internal ca certificate generated by pfsense.
