Does pfsense virtual machine work on vmplayer?

I am new to pfsense and wanted to try this out (I don't need the full setup with multiple NICs right now). I searched the forum for vmplayer information but found only a few links that do not confirm if the current version at http://www.vmsources.com/resources/cat_view/63-virtual-appliances or can be put on vmplayer. I didn't find the ova version from the on https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/VMware_Appliance.
Can anyone please advise on a step by step way to use pfsense on vmware?

Download the iso from one of the mirrors of pfsense official site for example this one http://pfsense.foofus.com:81/downloads/pfSense-LiveCD-2.1-RELEASE-i386.iso.gz
Create a new virtual machine and give it the extracted iso as the installer disc , customize hardware and add 2 NICs
