SMB freenas does not display under Network
-
I have a FreeNAS box set up. When I initially set it up to get everything working I was on my local LAN 192.168.2.0/24 which it was working when plugged into LAN switch. I now am moving it to it's own port on my Firebox running pfsense, re4. The re4 net is 192.168.4.0/30 with the FreeNAS on 192.168.4.2 and gateway at 192.168.4.1. My rules look like this.
TCP * * NAS net 445 (MS DS) * none smb pass through for lan
TCP * * NAS net 137 - 139 * none smb pass through for lan
TCP * * NAS net 389 (LDAP) * none smb pass through for lan
UDP * * NAS net 53 (DNS) * none smb pass through for lanI am trying to allow LAN to see FREENAS under network in Windows. I am able to connect via the ip address from the LAN section. Any suggestions?

If I'm not mistaken, your LAN host will see a windows share on the network only if said share is on the same subnet, or you have a WINS server in place. Otherwise, as you stated, you can point directly to it by IP address or resolvable host name.
On a side note, I believe you can delete all but the first of your rules without breaking Windows file sharing, and if you truly do want to access DNS services on another network then you need to enable both TCP and UDP to port 53. DNS usually uses UDP, but does require TCP in some cases.
