German sub-forum moderation
-
Hi all,
just wanted to at first thank you guys for all the support and development you are doing. Sometimes it's almost miracle working ;) As I introduced pfSense in my company and we bought support, I've even got a better understanding on how many scenes you are working simultaneously.
What I'm a bit sad for quite a few months now is the german sub-forum. Back in "the days" ;) with HoBa and Heiko we had quite superb people to moderate the area and know their way around. I even messaged them to check as there seems to be no trace of them for quite some time now. Not that our little sub-forum suffers from that, but a little moderation in terms of things like topic renaming, merging quite similar topics etc. would be nice.
As no one of the "great old ones" seem to have time enough for that, I would like to propose to add another moderator to the german sub forum. I'd be happy to volunteer, even if it's only temporary, but it is not about myself wanting to be moderator. I would be happy for anyone active, native speaking and having a bit of background or know how so he could manage and tidy up the area a bit :)I'm hoping it became clear what I'm trying to say :)
Cheers,

I didn't realize until you mentioned it, yeah I guess all the mods on the German board are no longer active. IIRC Holger is/was the only German speaking board-wide admin. He met a girl, got married, and decided a wife is more important than computers outside work hours. :D I've seen him in person more recently than he's posted here, wife and I were in Frankfurt Germany in 2010 and met up with Holger and his wife. Not sure what happened to Heiko, hope he's alright.
I made you a full moderator on the German board. Do as you feel is best, more or less following in the footsteps of what Holger and Heiko did previously as I think they did a good job.
That gives us one German moderator back at least. If you come across someone at some point who would be a good fit as an additional moderator on the German board, let me know.

I'm honored for the trust and will try to do my best. I have to big plus, that I could convince my company to throw out the juniper firewall stuff and use pfsense with commercial support (so you probably know me by my last tickets about syslog ;)). So I can take a slice of my work-time to give back in the forums. A win-win :)
Wish the best for good'ol Hoba. If you see him again, best wishes from me. Should have made the same thing as I -> teach your girl some techniques and persuade her to the dark side of the internet/IT. Mine started with sentences like "I need an internet cable!" - which triggered a lection about CAT standards, patch cable types etc. and now she orders me to give her a CAT6 S/TP cable, 10m black, ASAP. Sounds more like starbucks ;)
Hoping the same for Heiko though, that he's well and just uses his private time wisely. As for other mods, I read quite a few posts from Nachtfalke. Don't know if that is something, that he'd like formalized ;) But then we still have gruensfröschli as global mod watching over us. :)
Thanks for the chance to give back!
Best wishes from Germany

I think your moderator on the Dutch forum also is on a long vacation, as he was around for the last time in 2007 ;D
(I am not solliciting for the position, 'though: I remain proudly the eternal noob when it comes to pfSense matters ( :P ), and until pfSense is being turned into a quant economics system, I will be of no use moderating. To make up for that lack of skills in this area I have donated, bought your gold subscription, and try to thank people by offering them coffee ;D ).

Coffee? Where!? :D
