OK so we have a captive portal handling a subnet of 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.15.254 and the captive portal doesnt always load when people join the network. Sometimes it will load but it will get caught in a endless loop , then some people go right through with no issues. Has any one found a way to make the captive portal hand shake go smoother , also another issue is if we force hard or soft time outs when they go to re authenticate it wont load unless you type in a non http url , this proposes a issue with our older non technical clients that only enter key words into the url and not actual links . If anyone has had this issue or something close to this issue please let me know if you found a way to fix it or a work around.

I guess most modern browsers will input the URL line, and throw everything in a search robot (like Google) if it isn't a URL.
The problem is: if the browser is using a "https://search-robot" behind the screens to resolve these 'words', then nothing will work.

I finally printed 'paper' messages in each room that people should have ONE default home page in their browser: a http://www.whatevere.tld and surely NOT an https://… URL
This way, connecting works fine with my Wifi portal - and any portal interface in the world.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

Your only other option is redirecting https to the portal and generating a certificate error on the client.  If their default home page is their bank, and they do the wrong thing and save the cert you present permanently, you can now MITM their bank.  No bueno.
