This is what the states summary looks like in IPfire and IPcop. Why does it have to be so terrible in PFsense?

        IMO, that's a bit garish/ugly. But that's me.

That looks like the states list, not states summary. The summary page on pfSense has charts and tables of summarized info. And it's ugly because I coded it and I'm not a graphic designer. :-)

The states list (Diagnostics > States) could look better if someone with some HTML/CSS/graphic design skills would take a crack it making it prettier.

I do like the use of different colours to indicate different interfaces.  Maybe some soft pastels would look nicer?

That is a completely valid response. May I suggest that you guys add a UI person to the team who specializes in making stuff look good?

I don't know a programmer, but I do know a HTML/CSS/graphic design guy. If I got him to make an HTML/CSS version of that layout, could I just hand it over to you, or do I need to find a programmer as well?

We have someone on staff but they focus more on the public-facing pages and not UI bits at the moment, but that may change over time as they get acclimated.

If someone were to code the changes up and test them and submit them as a pull request for 2.2 we'd certainly be open to checking it out and probably including it.

I guess I'll start over in post a bounty unless you have a better suggestion….

Would the format of the Snort/Suricata Alerts Tab be a reasonable Format to follow?

It wouldn't be too hard to mimic that layout for the States Table.
