      I receive this error ever since I installed pfsense back in November.  All related packages (core, snort) are fully updated.

      "Emerging Threats Open rules file download failed.  Bad MD5 checksum."

      Any thoughts are appreciated.

        Probably a temporary problem with their web site.  I would expect it to clear up soon.  My own personal firewall did a rules update check at 1:30 PM Eastern Time today (Sunday) with no issues, and I am using the ET-Open rules.

          I had this error (different rule set) repeatedly for a screwed-up snort install recently (while other boxes could update the same rules without problems). I would un-/re-install snort, give it a try…

            I think it was blocking itself, actually.  Fixed.
