Hyper-V - pfSense Console Unresponsive
-
I am running a vanilla install of pfSense 2.2 using client Hyper-V through Windows 8.1. I have tried this configuration on a few different types of hardware with the same results. I generally allocate 1 CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and 8 GB of disk space.
The installation goes smooth, the VM responds fine for a period of time, but at random intervals the Hyper-V console connection to the VM goes unresponsive. Keyboard input does nothing. For the time being My workaround has been to use the Web GUI, but this becomes an issue when I need to shutdown or reboot the VM (unless there is a way to do this through the web interface).
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on a fix?

Problem solved. For the record - I have an LED illuminated keyboard on my system. The LEDs only work when scroll lock is pressed. Turns out pfSense does not like scroll lock. Sooo glad I figured this out!

Could you tell us who manufactured this engineering masterpiece? Would like to avoid products from these idiots. (BTW, Ctrl+Scroll Lock+Scroll Lock is a shortcut to generate crash dump on Windows servers…)

Probably the same geniuses who made my KVM with a hardcoded command key of Num Lock.
If I boot a VM and it has focus, the Num Lock toggling by the VM causes the KVM to switch. Brilliant.
