Recommendation? Install Pfsense over Windows Server 2008 as VM
-
Hi,
Would you recommend virtualizing Pfsense over an existing server machine running Windows Server 2008 r2 (DHCP, Active Directory, DNS)? I don't have time to virtualize the existing Windows Server 2008(DHCP,AD,DNS) so running them in esxi or any hypervisor is NOT am option for me right now.
Thus, my question was it it's ok or recommended that I install Pfsense as a vm on the Windows Server(host)?Thank you.

OK? That depends. Recommended? No. If you're just playing around then fine. If you're trying to secure a corporate network, no way.

@KOM,
Thanks for the reply. It is indeed for a running small business office.
So what's a better approach then? Should I install it on a spare PC or setup ESXI on the Dell server machine? Or any?

If you have a full vSphere deployment than having it virtual as part of vCenter is very convenient. Otherwise, go with a Standalone PC.
