Trouble uploading
-
I'm trying to attach a .png screen shot and having no luck.
The file is ~1.9MB so it should be under the single file 5MB limit
When I hit "post" the process starts and then times out after 60s+ leaving me with a full white screen page and nothing to click or retry.
Does the same thing in both Firefox and IE.Any suggestions?

May I suggest to optimize your pics for web? There is absolutely NO need to upload 5MiB screenshot! You're just annoying the hell out of readers on slow lines/mobile/limited data.
-
It's not 5Mib, as I said it's 1.9Mib.
I'd love to be able to limit it more, but it's a long log file and becomes unreadable if I limit the res. much.I was under the impression the Forum would limit your download to just a screen icon.
If you want to see the whole thing you click on the icon and "pay the price" of the download. Was that not part of the point of setting up attachments the way they are?
All that being said I'd love constructive suggestions and solutions for posting log files that already exist in pfSense.
I don't have a good means of exporting them at the moment other than screen shots. -
Yeah, the constructive suggestion was to optimize those for web. Not sure what you mean by large… if it's scrolling several pages, just don't bother, posting logs in such format is stupid.
P.S. I have no influence on the forum settings, I am just a user. I'm just telling you you're annoying the hell out of many users by posting huge images.

If you can Ctrl-C your logs (source code, whatever), think about pastebin.com ;)

Lets see if I have the problem or on your end. I am attaching a LARGE png.. Just took a screenshot small and resized it and played with the png options to make it LARGE.. Roughly same size your saying 1.9MB
Edit: sure looks like it works to me.. Maybe your upload is so slow the page is timing out by time your file gets attached?
-
Yah, looks good to me.
My connection is not spectacular (15/1) but it should be ok for this.I'll try and bang from my end.
Thanks for the effort.

So try uploading smaller files.. Do those work?
-
Here's a tiny (109K) attempt…......

Which went just fine, I tried my large file again and still no go - strange. Is there a per user limit on file uploads in the forum?
I don't think I've uploaded much, but perhaps in my playing about I tripped something?![Diagnostics_ Backup_restore' - 192_168_208_1_8443_diag_backup_php.png](/public/imported_attachments/1/Diagnostics_ Backup_restore' - 192_168_208_1_8443_diag_backup_php.png)

I'm glad uploading 1.9MB screenshots is failing, to be honest.

If you want to see the whole thing you click on the icon and "pay the price" of the download.Yes, that's correct. The ~2 MB image johnpoz posted here displays that way exactly. SMF creates a small thumbnail, and you only download the full file if you click on it. I attached that same file to a test post and it came through fine.
For that reason, knock yourself out with large file attachments. It shows what people are getting into if they click right beneath the thumbnail. Granted, usually a 2 MB image is one that could be greatly optimized and still equally usable.

Is there a per user limit on file uploads in the forum?
No. I don't see any reason larger file attachments should be failing. I attached the same ~2 MB image johnpoz posted and it worked fine. The only limits are global to the entire site (which are nowhere near being reached), a per-file limit of 5 MB, and a per-post limit of 10 MB. Your account hasn't generated any errors in SMF, which has always happened in the past where there was something within the site that was causing the issue.
Maybe try in incognito mode, possible an extension of some sort is messing with things. Or antivirus possibly.

Ah well, obviously something munged at my end.
I'll have to investigate further. Thanks for checking and confirming the Forum performance.
