Pfsense on windows host w/ 2 physical nics via virtualbox
-
Hi all,
Im trying to run pfsense under a windows 7 host with 2 nics via virtualbox.
1st nic is for my modem (wan)
2nd nic is for the lani have tried setting the first nic in vbox to be NAT, whilst the second, bridged on my 2nd nic.
my plan:
1st nic: ipv4 dhcp
2nd nic: 192.168.1.1/24
set up QoS, prioritize needed traffic and unspecified traffic goes into the default queue (20% of bw)is this proper? sorry for the newbish question, i haven't had much experience on network and stuff.. any input would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I believe you'd have to bridge NIC1 as well

Both Nics should be in bridge mood, and the physical connection must be correct i.e make sure the modem is actually connected to the WAN interface not LAN.
if you implement it correctly, then your WAN interface will get the Public ip from ISP. -
Another thing you need to make sure of is that the modem from your ISP is in bridge mode as well. If your using DSL the login info four your DSL needs to be put into PFsense. I am successfully running PFSense at home
Centurylink–>PFSense Virtual interface 1--->PFSense virtual interface 2---> 16 port switch--> Lan and beyond
I installed pfsense with the basic installer, confiqured the WAN interface (PPOE with DSL Username+Password) and the Lan interface (Static + DHCP server) and was online immediately.
Hope this helps a little.
