Tonight while helping someone I tried out the PPP connection functions with a Sierra MC7700. MPD5 worked OK but I had an issue with the dropdown box under PPP Assign. It is only populated by TTY ports and not CUA ports like it used to have. I picked an TTY that looked close, saved and checked PPP log and it was not correct. So I went to the Interface page where I assigned the ppp connection to, and down on that page it had an box named Modem Port, and that dropdown had the correct CUA ports so I picked mine and saved, then PPP log sprang to life and connected.

Here are two supporting documents showing the problem. One screenshot is from Interfaces>>Assign>>PPP
The other from the WAN interface page, where I have the PPP assigned.

          This should help:

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

This was caused by some debugging code in the file that has now been removed and pushed. Thanks to Phil Davis.
