I noticed that the hangout archive only allows embedded viewing now, whereas before you could download the files for offline viewing.  It's trivial to parse the javascript and extract the URL and download it if you're technical (which I suspect a LOT of pfSense users are), so I'm not sure what the goal was.  I'm not aware of the videos leaking on YouTube or other, and I would hope that someone invested in pfSense enough to purchase a Gold sub would not distribute the videos (but maybe I'm naive.)

There were several reasons. For one, it allows us to have more control of the videos from an organization stand point (the flat directory experience of videos and pdfs doesn't really scale). It basically functions as a global CDN (again scale). We also started offering previews and monthly updates so it made since to put them in one place: https://vimeo.com/netgate

If I wanted to stop you I would have disabled right click :P

I see.  It's still a shame that they're online-only now.  Maybe I'm one of the few that liked to watch them on a tablet at night in my cozy bed without using extra bandwidth.

I am on a 512Kbps connection, so I like to download as much content as possible and then view it - constant stop-start viewing is not fun. And also it means you can view the downloaded content while on the night bus to Kathmandu, or driving across outback Australia, or plenty of other places out of internet reach.
Unfortunately the world of content is heading (has gone) to assuming that people are always online, always within coverage, always have decent speed. This is not yet true, even in so-called developed countries.

Anyway, I'm sure I can work out how to get a downloaded copy rather than viewing live!

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

Like I said, the javascript is trivial to parse and extract the required URL.  Other browser extensions like DownloadHelper may manage it without manual parsing.

It seems I'm not able to access anything but the latest Hangout

It is most likely an issue with a browser plugin that you are running.

Indeed, in this case it was EFF's Privacy Badger. Thanks j
