VM tools "Not Running" after every reboot ESXi 5.1

I'm running the recent 2.1rc snapshot and have installed the vmtools as per this guide:

After every reboot, ESXi reports in the "Summary" section "Not running (Not installed)

Just install the VMware Tools package from System > Packages.
