      numerous packages haven't been checked.

      that error indicates a permission issue or a full harddisk or whatever other reason it can't be extracted.

        Permissions maybe. How do I resolve that? Full drive unlikely. My storage is over kill for my needs.

                I dont understand step 2. The first command shows pages of files. Am I suppose to remove all of them?

                    Looks promising. Perl seemed to install. My first try was freeradius. I caught this:

                    [4/11] Extracting perl5-5.20.3_8: …....... done
                    : not found
                    makewhatis: not found
                    pkg: POST-INSTALL script failed

                      no perl is not installed correctly according to what you posted
