ntopng will be back soon, there are many threads for it. Its problem is that the FreeBSD port had been removed because it had an issue with a dependency.

Not sure about bandwidthd. The package had no active maintainer for years, and we had occasional complaints that it was bricking firewalls, but we could never reproduce it.

For packages submitted and maintained by community members, we could not fix them all ourselves, we lack the resources and can't take on all of the additional technical debt that implies. Nobody stepped up to convert many of the ones on the removed list, so they didn't get brought over.

      In time that may change.

Is there a list of other packages that might get converted by pfSense devs, in the absence of a package maintainer?

Not yet, the only one I know for sure that is going to be converted yet is NUT, ntopng is already on our list to do once the port is fixed up so it's not quite in that same category.

It depends on the demand for the package, how broken the package is, and how viable it is to bring it back. But resources are limited.

            How about the TFTP package?

Is there some netflow type bandwidth tracking planned for 2.3+?  SNMP sucks for accuracy.  I do like most of the upgrade, but sucks most of the packages didn't get upgraded, but I understand those rely on other 3rd party devs.

The new FreeBSD kernel/system allows for much more compatibility with my newer AMD hardware.

There is the softflowd package already on 2.3, worked last I tried it.

Ahh nice ok, I haven't tried or seen that one yet.  I'll have to experiment with it. :)

Haven't looked deep at that but it would not only have to be fixed up for bootstrap, but also the fact that we converted to xinetd. Might not be too hard to pull off though.

Couple of things happen to me during upgrade. First same as in this post, lost bandwithd and ntop. Another - it upgraded me from X64 version to 32 bit. So had to do a clean install and restore from backup to get back to 64 bit. Now I don't know how to remove the references to bandwidth and ntop, they don't show on the installed packages page, but are present in the configuration backup.
