Also will have to wait until FreeBSD ports updates to the latest version.  I just checked this morning and FreeBSD ports is still showing 2.9.8.0 for the latest Snort package.

This should be fixed ASAP because 2.9.8.0 is already EOL - https://www.snort.org/eol.

Sorry about dropping the ball on the update this past week.  Was very busy and it slipped my mind.  Just submitted the pull request to update the binary and will be submitting the GUI package update shortly.  Here is a link to the binary package update pull request if anyone wants to follow it.

Thanks for the work on this Bill.  Just noticed the rule update failures in my logs and this thread explained it…

It'll work once pfSense approves the package update, then you'll need to update to the latest version of the package(s). THEN your automatic rule updates will work again.

As of the time I'm posting this - 23:21 5 July 2016 - the Snort package has not yet been updated for pfSense 2.3.1.

Looks like snort 3.2.9.1_14 just became available which contains snort-2.9.8.3.  I was able to download my Snort VRT rules and start Snort.
