Webfiltering with Squid guard
-
I am trying to impelemtng a pfsense based firewall mainly for web filtering at a university.
They already have installed untangle which works fine but they only tried it out, not looking eager to pay for a firewall, so naturally pfsense is the way to go.
but pfsense cannot block https traffic using squid guard, my question is not how but why?
why untangle can do the job easily? and pfsense cannot?

??? It works just fine if you know how to configure it.

Might be of interest for HTTPS filtering - https://docs.diladele.com/tutorials/filtering_https_traffic_squid_pfsense/index.html

First pointer would be to start reading this forum. Every other post is pretty much exactly like yours. From there you can either start using search engines to show you step by step what you want to do, or you start trying it yourself and then asking specific questions here if you run into problems. But I can assure you that squid + squidguard can filter HTTPS.
