I'm looking to setup site-to-site VPN connections for all my family member's homes so my network.  Are their any good consumer routers out there that can do site-to-site OpenVPN out of the box without installing an open source firmware like DD-WRT, etc?  Max throughput needed for each VPN connection is 20-25Mbps.

        Highly doubtful to be honest..

What is the budget for this project - and do these "routers" also have to provide the wifi?

Yes they will have to provide wifi.  These routers will replace the ISP provided routers my family has in their locations.  I won't be purchasing these routers myself so I'm really just looking for options I can provide to them.

I'm looking at the Synology RT2600AC right now.  It says it can act as a VPN server so I'm hoping it can also act as a client as well.

240$  Bit on the pricey side for your typical soho router ;)  But from their site they show "beta" site to site vpn support..

But also wave 2 AC.. might be a good choice.. Pick up a couple and play with them..

Yea def. pricey.  I'm looking more in the $150 range if I can but still exploring.

Keep in mind those are wave 2 AC wifi devices - so they are going to be a bit pricer..

Do they have previous model that is just AC and not wave 2, that should be cheaper.

I show their RT1900ac much closer to that price point $170 on amazon.  Shows vpn support but don't see where says anything about site to site like the other one.  I would reach out to them or ask on their forums.. My guess is same software runs on them - just different newer hardware is why the price bump.

Good call.  They have an RT1900AC which is about $150.  Shows the same (Beta) next to Site-to-Site VPN feature so I'll have to dig into that.

I would personally go with the sg-1000 from pfsense and add your own wifi..  But at ~$150 for your typical home user, that looks like it might be a pretty good choice..

Or cheap way to do it would be with say the unifi edge router x that is $49, and then add wifi ;)  You could get a cheap $20 wifi router to use as AP if you really wanted to do it on the cheap..

Why not just get your typical wifi router that supports 3rd party and put dd, openwrt on it and off you go?

This is the other option I'm considering but it requires more config on my part.  I'm looking for these routers to be as plug and play as possible as I don't live near most of my family members.  I have a pfsense box with separate wifi setup at my parents as you eluded to but I did all the setup.  I'm trying to make these setups as user friendly as possible for non-technical users.  This way I can avoid as much troubleshooting of issues in the future.
