Options for wifi
-
I successfully installed pfsense on an apu2c4 from pcengines. Everything seems to be working fine. Now I would like to set up wifi. I don't have a wifi card installed in the apu2c4 board. My cable modem is a wireless router that can be configured in to run in router mode or bridge mode. Is there a way to use the cable modem as the wifi and the apu2 with pfsense as the firewall? Or do I need a third device configured in AP mode, and the cable modem in bridge mode, while the APU2 is in the middle?
Thank-you for your help

It is unlikely you'd be able to do anything with the wireless in the modem and still have the wireless clients behind the pfSense firewall.
You will be best off with an additional external Access Point device that you plug into your LAN, such as a Ubiquity UAP or one of their newer AC models for example.

Thank-you for your prompt response. I decided to go ahead and install a wle200nx atheros mini pci wireless module onto the apu2c4 motherboard. Is there a guide that will show me precisely how to configure it so I can get my wireless working? I have not been able to find a guide that will help me.
Currently there are two Ethernet interfaces configured. WAN and LAN. I know I can go to interfaces and assign ath0, enable it, and configure it, which I already have done, but apparently something is wrong, or missing. That's why I am looking for more help.
If LAN connection already has firewall rules, and the LAN and WIFI are bridged, do I need seperate firewall rules for the WIFI interface?? To be clear, I can connect to WIFI, as can be seen in the dhcp leases, but I just don't have any internet via wifi. I also noticed that the bridge I created between the LAN and WIFI interfaces is showing as learning as can be seen below.

Bad choice - get yourself a real AP, or just use some old wifi router as one, which could be picked up for like 20$ Cheaper or the same cost as your wle200nx with WAY fewer problems!
