Update check failed, now running 2.4.1 but FreeBSD Version 11.0-RELEASE-p12
-
Hi All,
I've been running the beta of 2.4.0, and recently upgraded to the RC. I noticed that the update check stopped working for me, so I changedc /usr/local/share/pfSense/pkg/repos/pfSense-repo-devel.conf to:
FreeBSD: { enabled: no } pfSense-core: { url: "pkg+https://beta.pfsense.org/packages/pfSense_master_amd64-core", mirror_type: "srv", signature_type: "fingerprints", fingerprints: "/usr/local/share/pfSense/keys/pkg", enabled: yes } pfSense: { url: "pkg+https://beta.pfsense.org/packages/pfSense_master_amd64-pfSense_devel", mirror_type: "srv", signature_type: "fingerprints", fingerprints: "/usr/local/share/pfSense/keys/pkg", enabled: yes }
This gave me version 2.4.1, which I'm actually okay with because 2.4.1 is supposed to come with FreeBSD 11.1 which fixes a reboot issue I've been having on Kaby Lake.
However, the FreeBSD version it shows is 11.0-RELEASE-p12. Is this correct? Or is there a way to get it to use 11.1?
Thanks!

See the release notes, https://www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-2-4-0-rc-now-available.html - part "Coming soon".

2.4.1 is not yet based on 11.1, but will be very soon.
If you reached 2.4.1, your system must have been set to track "Development Snapshots (experimental)" under System > Update, Update Settings. To track 2.4.0 stable releases (snapshots, then RC, then release, then security/errata) you need to be on "Stable" there.
The two branches are close enough at the moment that you could switch to stable, and then force a package reinstall and you may be OK, something like this:
Select Stable in Update Settings, save
pkg update -f pkg unlock pfSense-kernel-pfSense pkg upgrade -f pkg lock pfSense-kernel-pfSense
And then reboot
If all else fails, reinstall. You can use the "Recover config.xml" option in the installer to quickly get back up and running in this case.

Thanks all! Everything seems to be ok, I'll stay on 2.4.1 in anticipation of FreeBSD 11.1
