Rearrange Interfaces

Interfaces are arranged in the order of assignment. Assigning VPN to OPT3, VLAN10 to OPT4, VLAN20 to OPT5, and VPN2 to OPT6 shows as:

WAN
LAN
VPN
VLAN10
VLAN20
VPN2

I prefer to rearrange interfaces as follows:

WAN
LAN
VPN
VPN2
VLAN10
VLAN20

Solutions or suggestions?

Save your config.xml, edit the file with a text editor (arrange the order you want), restore, reboot.

I don't think that is very sound advice.

Many, many things like firewall rules are relational to internal interface names (such as opt2). You would have to be sure to correct them all.

I can't think of an easy way to fix that off the top of my head.

Maybe don't overthink it?

Not that problematic if you prepare a bit. Just done exactly this between posting and now, including the tests afterwards.

Rules are bound to interface names (aka OPT2), that's correct. As well as DHCP server entries.
If you edit with a decent text editor which can open/close xml segments this should be relatively easy.

I have 11 interfaces to work on now. Expanded from a single "Project" IF to five "Project5", all on VLANs. So what was VLAN40 now are VLANs 41-45 but I hated the unsorted order with older VLANs like 50, 60, … inbetween.

But I'm lazy and only have one interface group with all project VLANs containing all rules so adjustments had to be made to the corresponding group memberships only. ;)

PS: RRD graphs are a bit irritating now, that's absolutely correct. Since that's data from the past I can live with it.
