    I'm specifically looking for the 11.1 (2.4.1) 6rd patch(es).

is pfSense STILL open source?  If no, tell us, if yes, post the code.

      Thanks!

Sure thing, it's very open source except that noone's been able to build the thing for years.

Years / Year / Months.. you do have a way of exaggerating things ;) but usually trying to be helpful (i think..).

I could build 2.4development version last year October i still have a resulting iso on my disk..: "PiBaSense-CE-2.4.0-DEVELOPMENT-amd64-20161004-0142.iso", i havn't tried/wanted/needed to since.. but indeed, github repository FreeBSD-src/tree/RELENG_2_4 hasnt been updated for 3 months now.. which presumably is the one that should be used.. though which repositories are supposed to be used together has always been hit and miss.. for a opensource project this certainly could use a bit more clarity..

As far as I know the FreeBSD source repo doesn't need any updates because the build process is supposed to use the pristine upto date sources for the matching FreeBSD version straight from the FreeBSD repo and apply the pfSense specific patches on that. Correct if I'm wrong on this.

Nah, the patches (incl. kernel - example) are supposed to be on that repo (as the description "FreeBSD src with pfSense changes" suggests) - they also used to be available on Redmine as changesets.

Anyway, whether they are supposed to be on that repo or separately, they are not available to anyone. Has not happened for months and the GitHub FreeBSD-src/tree/RELENG_2_4 is definitely not what's being used in current pfSense 2.4.

Well that was how it used to work but it seems they have changed their workflow for the worse. The releng branches for FreeBSD are very stable and get updates only now and then for security and errata fixes. Maintaining a separate set of patches wouldn't be a bad idea again now that they have moved from using the stable brances to the releng branches of FreeBSD as the basis for pfSense.

I'd like to see the 6rd patches SOMEWHERE or, better yet, Upstreamed to FreeBSD itself.

Being Franco's waterboy isn't going to put you in the best light, Larry.  Franco can work on his project, we'll work on ours.

We are not stoping our work to upstream a change because he needs it in his project.
