As usual: it depends. Sketch your szenario.
But Ruckus is my first thought as well when I hear WiFi.

i don't think there is a huge difference in performance for the buck between the top brands like

          • aruba
          • ruckus
          • meru
          • cisco

there a lots of cheaper options but still good enough for a lot of enterprises.

          • zyxel
          • ubiquiti
          • xirrus
          • ….

keep away from dlink/netgear/linksys/.... it has always been crap

There was just a thread where the AP stripped vlan tags as traffic entered the AP. So broadcast traffic and multicast traffic could be seen on any ssid vlan, etc.  Just utter crap.. So yeah pay attention to what your buying..

But you really need to be clear here are we talking enterprise with enterprise budget?  20, 30K ??  Or smb or home?  I don't see Aerohive mentioned..  Are we talking handful of AP to cover your house or 1000 to cover a stadium, etc.

BEST threads are always just utter BS…  Impossible to make such a claim without clear cut requirements and details.. Because in scenario X with budget Y, A might be your best choice..  But you change up any aspect of and now B might be better choice, etc.

Like asking whats the best car..  I don't know what you going to do with it.. Drive to church on sundays or drag race it on friday nights?  Do you have 10k to work with or 300K etc..

Is X really better than Y when X cost 1K and Y cost 100?  Depends now doesn't it..  Should you get the sonata or the bentley to drive to and from work?  Depends do you manage the starbucks or do you hit home runs for job ;)

Standalone, one or few, I'd say Ruckus. Not cheap, but I have one at home and it's great.

That all being said, I have had great experiences with Ubiquiti in small to medium deployments (1-10 units). Ruckus is ok. I got in a fight with one once… somehow it was leaking broadcast traffic and PCs were getting DHCP for the wrong LAN like 1 out of every 200 requests.. That was a fun one to figure out.

Slow code? Sounds like a good reason to buy more hardware!

i have been happy with Ubiquiti devices

used to use Engenious before that…

                    just depends on YOUR use

As mentioned before totally depends on what you are going to do with it.

In a home, the router you used before pfSense may very well be a great choice.

i.e., I used an Archer C7v2 before pfSense. I now use pfSense with a Ubiquiti AC AP Pro.

The Archer C7v2 with Xwrt operating as an AP is actually better in… every technical aspect I can think of than my Ubiquiti. The only things Ubiquiti does better is look good and have a pretty UI (that you need to basically have a micro-server for). To be fair Ubiquiti also scales better, has exceptional customer support, and the technical difference was not huge - my Ubiquiti is on the ceiling and the Archer is in a closet. But if I knew better in the first place I would have just kept my Archer and been done with it.

All that to reiterate that it depends on your scenario.
