Hello.
Just setup FRR versus quagga… using same settings worked out of the box ! Great ! Good to see a new OSPF/BGP package.
My question is ... does pfsense still restart the FRR package during interface update / DHCP release renew on an interface or has there been a VTY interface update method implemented with the new FRR package ? if not any plans for implementation ?

The basic operation of the package is the same as quagga at the moment. I've looked at trying to hook into vtysh a bit but not deep enough to determine if it's possible to automate that sort of thing properly yet.
There is a patch around that will stop routing packages from being restarted which can help in some cases.

Hi thanks for the reply.
Will that patch work with latest release? What happens when the package does not get restarted and and IP changes on DHCP for example… or... if I'm using dynamic IPs on the "client" tunnel links of openVPN?

That's one of the cases that needs more testing. It's not clear exactly if frr will pick up on the change properly or if it really does need a restart to see everything. I haven't tested that scenario out myself here.
If it is all static then it can almost certainly skip the restart.

Is this patch still compatible with Version 2.4.x.
Seems like some paths/files have been changed.
