Whats best practice to transfer old settings?

Upgrade from 2.1.5 to 2.2 beta didnt work, cpu on my vm went up to 100%, disc and network activity to 0% … for 2 hours, then i reverted to old snapshot again.

Did a fresh install and like to takeover some settings. Avoid or do backup/restore of selected service settings?

Settings: Especially rules and nat is interesting. Openvpn and ipsec (changed from raccon to strongswan  ok to convert?) would be nice too. Rest i do by hand.

Upgrading in-place should work. If it does not, start a new thread for that to diagnose the problems encountered.
