I have searched for months trying to find an all inclusive YouTube Ad block list for use with pfBlocker and that day has come.

      Direct Link: http://jasonhill.co.uk/pfsense/ytadblock.txt
      Found At: https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/7c2y6f/pfblockerng_youtube_adblock_list/

We can all finally say goodbye to those pesky and annoying video ads!

        Thanks for sharing.
You add this to your DNSBL Feed section, correct?

I tested it. It blocks most. I had one ad get through on ten videos.
I had to make sure I had the Adblocker for Youtube Extension disabled in Firefox to give a fair chance.

You're welcome! Every once in a while an ad will get through; I think it's partially due to the fact we cant wildcard block like the file suggests we should

            Wildcard blocking

The domains below need to beed added to your program as wildcard domains

            ( without the # )

            6.googlevideo.com

            7.googlevideo.com

            d.googlevideo.com

            e.googlevideo.com

            k.googlevideo.com

            l.googlevideo.com

            r.googlevideo.com

            s.googlevideo.com

            y.googlevideo.com

            z.googlevideo.com

Maybe this will be possible in the new overhauled version of pfBlocker.

Wildcard blocking is not something pfBlocker would be able to do (so far as I know) in blacklisting as Unbound, which answers the DNS queries, isn’t designed to do any processing on domain names - just return results for the specific domain requested and cache the results

Whitelisting, theoretically could make more use of wildcards but BBCan would need to implement it.  I don’t know if the demand is there for that.

                  @motific:

Wildcard blocking is not something pfBlocker would be able to do

This is what "TLD" is for….

Blocking Youtube ADs will be hit and miss... Since they mess video and Ads together with the same domains.... so YMMV...

I am not recommending to do this, so this is just an example:

The list shows the following domain:
                  6.googlevideo.com

When TLD is enabled, it looks at the TLD masterlist to see what TLD options are "known":

                  /usr/local/pkg/pfblockerng/dnsbl_tld

So the only way it will wildcard block the domain above, is if "googlevideo.com" was in the TLD master list which would create a "Redirect" zone in the Unbound Resolver for all sub-domains….

But that will probably break lots of things....

That’s what I meant about wildcard blocking - you can blackhole all sub domains using tld but not partial ones - so all subdomains of googlevideo.com that start with A without also affecting those that start with B.

Or does Unbound support regular expressions and I missed it?

You could manually add custom entries to redirect any zones directly in the Unbound configuration… But its difficult to do that on an individual basis in the package... Maybe down the road .... :)

I stopped using chrome and switched to the Brave browser (Download from the official site- https://brave.com). I forgot about advertising on YouTube.
Brave was created by Brendan Eich, one of the founders of the JavaScript programming language, using the Blink engine (developed by Google). All popular browsers are created on this engine - Opera, FireFox and Chrome itself.
