Speed issues using PIA and OpenVPN
-
I have been using pfsense for about a year and half. The entire time I have used PIA and routed some LAN traffic through it, while the rest used my WAN. My service is 100/10 from my ISP. I never had a speed issue using PIA like so many other folks have. Some servers were not as fast as others, but for the most part I was getting very close to 100/10 while using PIA.
Last fall I decided to 'upgrade' to the 300/20 package. As soon as I did that, my PIA speeds started crawling… it was like they were capped at 40/5. I wrote it off and reminded myself not to try to 'fix' something that is not broken. Last week I decided the 300/20 wasn't being utilized for anything in my household and I switched back to 100/10. As soon as that change took effect my PIA speeds were blazing fast again! Does anyone have a theory on that? I did not have to change any hardware to get the faster speed package from my ISP.

Are you using the latest configuration for pfsense?
We’re you using 128 bit encryption or 256?
I just recently was upgraded to 100-10 and as with you speeds once I moved to the latest configuration are acceptable… using strong 256 btw
What is your hardware? I am using a sg2220 with aes

Does 128 bit and 256 CBC run better ?
That’s what I am running
Have you tried enabling aes-ni?

I just came of PIA on a dd-wrt flashed router and I am not on a pfsense machine that I made. Its an intel celron 2.6gz with 3 gigs of memory. My ISP is 100/10 and speed has ALWAYS been an issue for me. In face, the speeds were better on the R7000 then my pfsense box. I would see 50-60Mbps on the dd-wrt router and I see maybe 30-40Mbps (wired in both setups for speed tests) if I am lucky through my pfsense box. I have no clue what to do anymore lol

I have not. You?
yes mine is enabled and being utilized.
