You might want to do a bit more research on GDPR...
Article 3 of the GDPR says that if you collect personal data or behavioral information from someone in an EU country, your company is subject to the requirements of the GDPR. Two points of clarification. First, the law only applies if the data subjects, as the GDPR refers to consumers, are in the EU when the data is collected. This makes sense: EU laws apply in the EU. For EU citizens outside the EU when the data is collected, the GDPR would not apply.
That being said I am not sure about how they might be able to levy any fines, etc. Pfsense has a world wide following. And to be honest GDPR is good for all users, not just users of the EU... I applaud netgate/pfsense for compliance with the standard.
And while they are HQ'd in US, they have employee's all over and some in the EU. There are clearly many members here on the forums that are from the EU.. So should they just go back to the old forum and kick all those users, purge all their accounts?

I don't, it's like political correctness. If you buy that sort of thing, good for you. GDPR is another globalist construct. How about just NOT collecting personal data....? No, that's not the Driven by Marketing, Corporate way.

No, as the old forum was not GDPR compliant. We've written a blog post about the reasons for the migration: https://www.netgate.com/blog/introducing-the-netgate-forum.html
Many won't like new forum at first, as it's a big change after a long time. But it is more functional and responsive, it will grow on you. Give it a time, we're still working on many parts, so it's going to look better in the following days.
Crap is crap, it does not "grow on you". But the bean counters must have been happy with it so therefor its better. As I always asked my AVPs - "Do you want the best product out there with our name on it... or the worst one you can get away with?"

They can say that all they want, but it is an overreach, they simply cannot impose laws on citizens of other countries, period (who are not geographically located in the EU). If a EU resident visits some US based business' website with no presence in the EU, that website/company is not bound by the EU GDPR at all.A bit of a clarification on my part: if Netgate has business licenses in an EU country than that is different story, the law would apply to Netgate.

No, in my opinion, if Netgate wants to, or is required to, comply with GDPR, they should use forum software that is GDPR compliant AND is more user friendly/appealing.AFAIC, the GDPR has good intentions, but its implication that they can regulate outside their Unions boundaries is bad for every earthling. It's a trend I hope we do not see continue, but unfortunately Europe has no concept of Liberty and Sovereignty...

@ar15usr We all need to quit griping about this website and just learn to use it. Netgate was/is not the only company to change their website due to the GDPR. Most every website you visit since the end of May 2018 requests that you to agree to the new GDPR terms and conditions to access their website. They have all made changes, maybe not as drastic as this, but it is useable.
I didn't like this layout when they first changed it but I'm getting use to it and it really is not that bad. Actually in some cases I like it better than the old website and I think everyone else will once they stop complaining and get use to it.
Just my 2 cents worth about the subject.......

Understood, ultimately I will have to use whatever site software they decide to use.But, I can provide feedback as a user of this site and that is what I did. They can decide to ignore or take into consideration as they wish...

People need to grow up and face reality. There is no going back. If you don't like the new forum and it really is an important issue in your life then just leave. Stop bitching and leave. You're not doing anything constructive, you're just whining. Many people have provided constructive, useful feedback and the Netgate team have responded quickly and effectively. Go to the pfSense subreddit or something.
@ramosel Stop whining about your PMs. If they were really that important, you would have saved them locally. And really, "globalists"??? This isn't Breitbart. Save your alt-right buzzwords for some other forum.

It's so we don't get sued and nothing else. We hated GDPR changes more than all of you together
