How to install new version
-
The pfSense GUI only offers version 2.1.2_4 but when you access the ntopNG UI you get notified that 3.4.0 is available.
- Is it addvised to install this or do we have to wait for pfSense to push it as an option first?
-
What version of pfSense are you running on there? The current version of pfSense offers a 3.2.x version of ntopng, not 2.1.2_4.
The version is updated when the version in the quarterly FreeBSD ports tree used by a pfSense version is updated. Generally you'll see a bump on the development snapshot versions first.
We can manually move it forward if we need to, for example, to address a bug or security issue.

@jimp That's what I'm running but the netop UI says:
A new ntopng (v.3.4.0) is available for download: please upgrade.
-
So where did the "2.1.2_4" come from?
It's almost always going to complain it's out of date, that's just the nature of using FreeBSD quarterly ports trees, but it's more stable that way. There is no supported way to upgrade it yourself outside of that structure. It will be upgraded when the ports are updated, as mentioned in my previous comment.

Because I'm an idiot and copy-pasta'd the pfblockerNG which was in my paste buffer from an earlier post. I didn't notice it. Sh*t. Sorry.

That's OK! I wanted to make sure there really wasn't some old version hanging out there I wasn't aware of.

@jimp
maybe ntopng version needs bump new ones there for snapshots 2.4.4 but had to reinstall to get nothing indicated an update or the prerequisites had changed
