      Hey Netgate,

I'm absolutely fascinated by TNSR and what it can do. A couple months ago, I was given budget approval to get a pair of XG-1541s. I wanted them to replace aging HP servers we re-purposed as pfSense systems... not because I was having a problem with them, but knew that the responsible lifecycle-management thing is to swap them out before they become a liability.

With TNSR launched, I'm not 100% sure what the best hardware is now. I no longer want to replace my HPs with the best pfSesnse server, but instead the best TNSR server. I can set up TNSR on that new server, test it out for the remainder of this year and eventually move over from pfSense. I have time to wait to get the best/most supported option.

I have some 10/40GbE networking to play with as well, which i never cared to torture myself with routing over, but with TNSR that all changes.

If I could get some direction, happy to build a beast and provide tons of testing/feedback as I go.

      Cheers,
      --Robin

        Hi Robin,

        Thanks for your inquiry.

TNSR is indeed exciting. We do intend to port it to the XG-1541, which will allow users to fully exploit 10 GbE interfaces. We are pretty close to having it available as a bare metal image for appropriate appliances. It will be subscription based, pricing is still TBD, but rest assured it will be compelling relative to market alternatives.

Perhaps the best news is that an XG-1541 purchase even with pfSense factory edition is a fine investment, as it can be upgraded later to TNSR with a software update. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What other netgate appliances to you plan to port TNSR to? XG-7100?

The current plan is to make TNSR available on all XG series (desktop and rack mount). So yes, that would include the XG-7100. Availability dates are TBD, but enabling customers to fully leverage their appliance investment via high performance packet processing software (TNSR) is a growing part of our business. Let me know if you have any other questions.
