Create two wifi networks one for 2.4G and one 5G with compex WLE200NX
-
Hi
Recently I got the ali apu board along with the WLE200NX dual band pcie card
I have created a 2.4G wifi network and I would like to create one more for the 5Ghz band
I go to interfaces-assign and I select the ath0.
Then I go to the main page for the wifi and I select new IP range and a 5Ghz N frequency
As soon as I change the frequency to 5G range the 2.4G wifi network changes as well
What else should I do so I can have 2 wifi networks on 2.4G and 5G frequencies at the same time
thanks -
Unfortunately its not possible with one radio to offer both bands.. You can create multiple Access Points under Wireless Groups but only 2.4 or 5ghz, not both. With two separate radios it is possible.

are you saying that the WLE200NX has only one radio?
I thought it can be used for two wifi networks at the same time -
I can't find anything on that part that says "simultaneous dual-band."

I think the WLE200NX has the AR9280 chipset
The datasheet is herehttp://www.qca.qualcomm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/AR9280.pdf
It says that it has dual radios
Am I missing something here -
Blame their marketing. It means dual band not dual radio.

Or perhaps Transmit and Receive…..I'm not sure how MIMO is implemented but it may have separate radios. I am sorry for the confusion. I should have used the word module instead of radio.
Here is some primmer material:

You're looking for the term "simultaneous dual-band." That's what most manufacturers call it.

Nice video
So I assume after all these that these atheros chipsets work on both frequencies but not at the same time.
They are supposed to be on a client side like smartphone, laptop, computer where the computer will scan
both frequencies SSID and the user will select only one SSID to be connected on.
On the other hand if those chipsets are on wireless hotspots then the scenario is different
They have to be transmitting on both frequencies at the same time only then we can say that they are dual band simultaneousI guess I need one more card if I need to have dual band concurrent networks
Another observation on that topic and maybe it is related is that if I try to set both antennas as transmitting antennas
I always get as return only one of them. For the receiving both antennas is ok.Try the following
sysctl dev.ath.0.txantenna =2 (2 means both antennas)
I can not set it up to 2. I always get 0
but for the sysctl.dev.ath.0.rxantenna= 2 is fine.Strange behavior of the AR9280 or a bug?

Just buy an Access Point.

Prince1234, I too, discovered that the WLE200NX was not a simultaneous band card. I'm trying to set up a dual band APU box and since I have one more open slot I ordered another WLE200NX and antenna kit off of Amazon and drilled a couple of holes in my case. I'll let you know how is goes after the parts come in next week.
