Difference between real IP and Remote/Virtual IP

Hi,

I noticed a difference in OpenVPN between the Remote/Virtual IP in pfSence and the real IP when connected to pfSense with a laptop.

In pfSence the Remote/Virtual IP is 213.152.161.137 but when I check my IP on a connected laptop with "WhatIsMyIP.com" it is 213.152.161.138.
Also when I reconnect to AirVPN there is always a difference from +1 in the IP.

Is this normal, or is this a bug or something?

That looks like the addresses at the 2 ends of the VPN and is entirely normal.

Where exactly are you looking at this IP in pfsense.. Normally the vpn client in pfsense would get a rfc1918 address.. Are you saying they are using a public IP for the tunnle? Or did you just make up that IP vs giving the rfc1918 address?

I am looking in the OpenVPN Dashboard widget, but the Remote Host IP in the Status - OpenVPN page is the same. I noticed already that with PIA I get a totallly different IP addres, not even in the same range. So it looks that it is a normal behaviour.

So for example

Here that public IP on the top is the IP connecting too.. The below rfc1918 is my clients tunnel IP - which would be natted either the IP am connecting too... Or in the case of large vpn services could any pretty much any other IP.. Since you have no idea what IP they might nat your connection to the public world.. There is nothing saying its going to be the IP your connecting to their service with which is the remote/virtIP you see on the widget..

Oke, I understand. So it's a coincidence that with AirVPN the outgoing IP is just 1 number difference.
