Zerotier One as a package - $100USD
-
Is the project still going on?
-
@impact1560 Its on the roadmap for 2.5.0 right now. Fingers crossed that it makes it.
-
@bbrendon that's because @coreybrett set the target version to 2.5.0, not because we accepted it for that release.
-
I too would love to see a ZeroTier package. I'd contribute to the bounty as well if we could get a reliable package.
Update: For now I can easily commit to $50. Might be able to do more depending on when it's done.
-
@Noebas Did you apply appropriate rules to the zt interface after creating it?
-
@KBrownConsulting yes i did, for testing a any rule (https://imgur.com/a/JqtZUnL) if i can get it to work happy to write a howto.
-
So currently there is no working package for pfSense 2.4.4-p1?

I also really hope this will happen. After Teamviewer locked me out I've started using Zerotier to manage various personal computers in different locations and it works great.
But would be awesome to have it integrated into pfsense so hopefully could interface with DHCP and DNS services that pfsense is providing. It says in that redmine link that it is due as a target for version 2.5.0.... is that still the case? Hoping so...
I posted a little of my initial experience here:

Shameless bump but..... the more I use Zerotier the more amazing I feel it is. All your machines are seamlessly with you all the time, wherever you are. Any hope on pfSense integration, is it being worked on?
-
Unrelated/offtopic but perhaps of interest to ZeroTier users... this person seems to have got ZeroTier working on a Ubiquiti Edgerouter. Still hoping someone might get it working on pfSense....

I'll kick in another $75 towards the bounty on this.
By my calculations, the current bounty for this stands at a cool $1,125
$30 - Opticum
$20 - Arffeh
$100 - Pikkaachu
$100 - cjw
$250 - vinistois
$250 - itksteve
$100 - DavidF
$50 - pbosgraaf
$50 - tebrown
$50 - noebas
$50 - KBrownConsulting
$75 - AllenEllis -
I've updated my original post to put in a specific dollar amount.
For now I can easily commit to $50. Might be able to do more depending on when it's done.

Is there a way to make a legit bounty for this?
-
I'am in NO way connected to Opnsense and this could be a sensative subject but the fact is that thy have a zerotier implementation.
Zerotier makes sense and i'am wondering what is keeping PfSense devs from implementing this as it seems that others have it already.
https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/zerotier.html
I'am am still in for the bounty

hey folks
I'm the upstream port maintainer (i.e. I maintain the FreeBSD version of net/zerotier). You can see I'm pretty active in the ZT software issues & pull requests on github as well.
I'm new to the forum, so right now I don't know the rules wrt bounties for netgate, so apologies if there's already something underway and I've simply missed it.
If there's still interest in doing this, I'll organise a bounty page somewhere, and take it from there - I'm in the middle of updating the upstream port to 1.4.6 already. If it gets to a reasonable level I am happy to offer support/help to get people up & running too but right now it has to compete with more prosaic work.
You can contact me via email at FreeBSD.org or skunkwerks.at for any questions.
-
Cool! I moved on and created a site-to-site Wireguard mesh by hand instead. But I'm still good for my original bounty because this looks like such a promising alternative for future projects & other users.

There was some work done on this a couple of years ago by I think @Chancem and @zevlag but from what I can see by the earlier posts in this thread, it never reached completion. I think they posted their progress here:
https://github.com/zevlag/pfsense-ports
https://github.com/ChanceM/pfSense-pkg-zerotierI am not a programmer but perhaps that could be used as a foundation..... although I also don't know about any rules for bounties. I think it's fair to say (anyone correct me if I am wrong) that there has been no recent active work on this for quite a while until your post.... which is very welcome!

@dch I'm still in for $50. And thanks for maintaining the port!
