How to use OVPN only on Steam?
-
Hello,
I'm trying to send nothing but Steam.exe over the VPN and the rest of my internet shall work without VPN. I've googled this and found the "Split-Tunneling" function of OVPN.
But every Tutorial I found just forward/block specific web pages/ IP adresses, how to forward steam and nothing else through the vpn?Thank you in advance for your reply

The reason they all refer to addresses is because that's all pfSense can see.
Packets that it inspects are tagged with addresses and protocols, not the fact that they were issued by an application called "Steam.exe"You may have luck if you figure out the addresses/ports/protocol that Steam uses and try and filter based on those (if you can be specific enough).
I've never had to investigate that one, although there may be others on the forum with more knowledge and/or some pointers.
(After a little more thought, Snort or Suricata might be useful as well? Just a guess…)
The other place to look would be a Steam support forum.

You can do this with the Rules section under the firewall settings, setup an Alias list for all the steam servers *.steam.com, then under the LAN rules, source LAN net, dest ALIAS NAME, all ports, then under advanced sections pick the OPT(OpenVPN) as the gateway.
