      Hello to all.
I am trying to configure a point-to-point vpn with a Centos 7 server but I can't when entering the shared key because it seems to be invalid.
The key is create in Centos via easy-rsa 3.
Do you think this is a correct key? I can insert in the configuration of the client pfsense in shared key mode?

      thanks
      Andrew

A valid OpenVPN Shared Key looks like this

You can use my Key for testing, but please not in production. ;-)
Better create your own via the pfSense WebGUI or openvpn --genkey --secret static.key

          Thanks Rico.
I have used a Centos7 as a server openvpn and with the tool easyrsa then I generated the certificate authority and the certificate for the server and the client.
          This is the command :
          ./easyrsa build-ca nopass
          ./easyrsa gen-req server1 nopass
          ./easyrsa gen-req client1 nopass
          ./easyrsa sign-req server server1 nopass
          ./easyrsa sign-req client client1 nopass

but I think this solution is not compatible with pfsense because the file key is too long.

Now I try to share in the forum the file created with this tool for your check.

          Thanks

          Andrea

If you want to use Certificates you need to pick SSL/TLS mode.
Shared Key mode is just the static key like I showed you above, no Certificates.

              Ok.
But for generate the Certificates and the key what do you use ?
Because the server openvpn is a Centos7 where I will connect two pfsense as client.

              Thanks

To generate the static key you can use openvpn --genkey --secret static.key as I already wrote.
This should work on either FreeBSD (pfSense) and Linux (CentOS).

Seems like you are still mixing up Certificates and Static Key.
Parameter key in the Server Config is the private key of your server Cert and not the static key.
For me it looks like you want to go with SSL/TLS (Certificates) - but you mentioned Shared key in your first posting. So pick SSL/TLS mode in your pfSense OpenVPN Client, not Shared Key.
Can't you just blow away this CentOS VM and use pfSense as your Server there? This would simplify things a lot...

                        Thanks Rico.
I will chek the configuration and then update the forum.
If the problem persist I can try to install another VM with pfsense as a server.

                        Thanks

You'll have a great experience with running pfSense on both sides, trust me. ;-)
There is plenty of great documentation around for site to site VPNs with pure pfSense. Grab your favourite drink and just watch:
