@KRBVROC1 what version of pbflocker are you using ?

Not sure why yours shows unknown unknown.

Well that provides more insight. From a UI point of view, very confusing. I only see secured.netflix.com in the Alert log, nothing about online-metrix.net. The secured.netflix.com might be a red herring anyway since firefox shows when I click the button, the POST is to netflix.com, not secured.netflix.com

Maybe there is some other issue going on, but what is the proper way to completely disable the pfblockerng for testing something like this? I initially tried unchecking the 'Enable DNSBL' and forcing a cron update but it still didn't work. I then tried 'Reset the firewall state table' and it still didn't work. Maybe there truly is something else going on here with Netflix but not sure I have done everything to rule out pfblockerng and that I effectively disabled it.

        @NogBadTheBad - I am using 2.1.4_20

          I'd install pfBlockerNG-devel 2.2.5_28

            Well .. lol.
If you - @krbvroc1 - choose a feed called "ADs - Collection of ADvertisement Domain Feeds." I can image that 'netflix' is part of it.
Choosing the right feeds that fits your needs IS important.

Any way : the solution is one click away :

            The advise that follows :

            should be act upon.
If not ... well ..... things will work out ..... later on.

@Gertjan You may have missed my previous reply or didn't read my initial post. Perhaps the confusion is that I am using pfblockerng, not the development version.

In my original post I included the SINGLE entry that showed up in the Alets tab. Do you see any of those controls that you are claiming is only one click away? Do you see online-metrix.net? Notice the little '-' sign - if I hover over that it said 'Already on the whitelist'. Yet it still continues to show up in the Alerts tab despite being whitelisted with zero indication of which list is blocking.

                Humm.

Keep in mind, most, if not all people replying here use the "-devel" version, as stable and much better as the original "pfBlockerNG". You'll be seeing the name of the feed that blocks.

I did the test - installing, as @NogBadTheBad suggested, the D_Me_ADs feed - and the 'netflix' was shown refused.
A white listing did do the job (after flushing the DNS cache of my PC).
Keep in mind that the IP - or range of IP's could exists on other lists.

To be sure : when you stop pfBlockerNG, the issue is gone ?

I do advise you to step up to the last -devel version. It's really worth it.

Not even sure why the older pfBlockerNG still exists, I thought I saw @BBcan177 say the older pfBlockerNG was going to be dropped and pfBlockerNG-devel was going to be renamed pfBlockerNG.

@Gertjan @NogBadTheBad Typically I would never run something labelled as a development version on a 'production' environment, but it seems many people have moved to devel and feel it is stable. Yes, every few months I pop in here looking for @BBcan177 announce the development version was promoted to an official 2.3 version--it hasn't happened yet and I always assumed there was some reason behind that. Typically if a software developer is unwilling to move something out of development there is a reason for that.

As far as my original problem...I tried using my cell phone (data network) so my router is not in the loop and it still failed. So that rules out pfblockerng. So it must be some sort of Netflix issue.

I seem to remember @BBcan177 stating in some of the older messages that the change wouldn't take place till pfSense 2.5 is released?

While I am not certain, I think this Netflix issue was because I use Virtual Credit Card numbers for all online purchases. I think Netflix may be blocking those cards now (I have used them for years). If that is so, again poor UI design...
                        Selection_204.png

It should indicate they don't accept that type of card (Not sure how they even know to be honest). After some web searching it looks like people were abusing virtual cards to get free trials or something. Another case of dishonest people ruining things for everyone else.

Yup!! This is across the board on everything, not just free trials ;) The world is full of assholes, they keep the rest of us from having nice things ;)
