Guilty...my ISP gives both; yet, because my brain goes into foreign mode and refuses the hexadecimal, I stick to IPv4...silly! Need to overcome it soon!

But your Samsung phone works with wifi calling and SMS, like most people.

There's no time like the present. PfSense works well with IPv6. As for hex addresses you just don't think of them. As there's no configuration involved, everything just works.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
          UniFi AC-Lite access point

          I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

That's OK. We all have our faults. 😉

What are you doing in a pfSense forum, shouldn't you have an Air-something-or-other routing your network?

I have Verizon for cell and had the same issue with the latest Android version. Text messages would hang, or not go out at all.

Turning off IPV6 on my internal LAN connection, no issues.
I can now text without issue.

Wife's iPhone (X) didnt seem to be affected.

Your post would be more informative if you included the Android phone make and model.

Then there's a problem with the phone. Call Verizon support, to see if they know anything about this.

There is a problem with the phone, as I thought had been demonstrated by all the Samsung Android phone complaints in this post. But Verizon doesn't control the phone OS, they can't do a thing. Try calling Samsung? Yeah, good luck with that. The only practical answer is to ditch Samsung phones if you have an IPv6 home network.

I had no issues with the Ubiquiti edge router I ran for the last year+.
The phone is an S10+ running the latest Android (updated 5-6 weeks ago to update 11, has not gotten update 12 yet)

I installed a new pfSense device (basic install) and now have the texting issue.
Setting ipv6 to none on the LAN interface fixed it (google led me here to this post)

I'm not saying it's Samsung, android or pfSense simply that it started with the install of pfSense, and this fixed it.
It could very well be a security update or setting specific to the phone, but it appears I'm not alone in this issue.

Now when I get time I will put the edge router back in, and enable IPV6 on its internal LAN network and see if it happens.

It appears the only complaints in this thread are Samsung Android, all my Android Pixels are fine with pfSense IPv6. While that may not be definitive proof, it is enough for me to toss the Samsung phone. I'm not wasting any more time looking at Samsung's problems.

It seems that it would be more practical to just disable ipv6 on the wireless network if you are using wifi calling. Try turning it on again when you get a new phone. Doesn't seem very practical to buy a new phone when you could make a simple configuration change that will fix the issue. Unless you just want an excuse to buy a new phone.

You're entitled to your opinion. But on MY network, which I just went through considerable time and expense to upgrade, I choose to abandon the bugged device rather than compromise network functionality.

I was addressing your statement that 'the only practical answer is to ditch samsung phones' and offering an alternative. You are free to do whatever you want on YOUR network.

For most people, it results in no difference in functionality. Again, I was just stating that getting a new phone (or phones) was not the only practical solution.
