Recommended steps to update the Squid package?

Hello, our pfSense VM currently runs version 0.4.44_13, and there is now an update availabe for 0.4.44_14.
What are the recommended steps to correctly perform this update?
Should I stop all squid related services like clamav and then update via package manager? Or is it safe to simply update on the fly?
This pfsense vm is in production.
