Can a VLAN interface be assigned as the LAN interface
-
Hi.
I've installed pfSense 2.4.5 on an apu 1d4 today. I'm needing to create two VLANs.
Can the VLAN interface in my case re0.10 be set as my LAN interface?
Ideally I want both VLANs to use re0 as their parent interface then assign re0 to the LAN. Is this possible in pfSense?

Your question is a bit confusing, but yes, you can assign a vlan interface as the LAN. Just go to interfaces, assignments. Create the vlan on the vlan tab, then you can assign it. You will need to properly trunk the switch port, so either have a trunk port ready and move the cable, or re-configure the port you're connected to.

@dotdash I apologize that wasn't my intention. On other systems like OpenBSD for instance I've made two VLANs 10 and 200 on re0 only.
I'm confused about how I assign them in pfSense. Does each VLAN I create have to be assigned to a different physical port or can I have VLANs 10 and 200 both on LAN.
I'm sorry I think it made it more confusing by trying to explain it... lol.

Yes, could could create vlan's 10 and 200 on the re0 interface. Create the vlans, like I mentioned in my first post, then you can assign them. If you look at the ifconfig afterward, it should look familiar.

I think I figured it out. Does it look right to you? It's my first time implementing VLANs in pfSense.

That looks right. As long as 10 and 200 are tagged on the switchport re0 is connected to, you should be good.

Alright I've already trunked the switch ports not in production just in my lab setup but I can't hook it up till later tonight. I have a lot of remote work using the network right now and I can't afford to interrupt it.
I'll let you know how it goes and thank you for your help I really appreciate it.

@dotdash It worked out very well and pfSense is running the network smoothly.
Thank you again for your help with this.
