I would like to see the support for IP2Location database in pfSense.

Anyway, after all this “MaxMind registration wave” goes out, and all products with geolocation determining involved, integrate a MaxMind Key, slowly, integrations with other services coming.

But if we (as admins and developers) really need this integration with other DB - we may asking the developers.

        No asking - no action.

          MaxMind update User Agreement

          Dear GeoIP2/GeoLite2 User,

The California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) took effect on January 1, 2020. Under the CCPA, California residents have the right to opt out of the sale of their personal information as defined by the CCPA. Where a business receives a request from a California resident to opt out of the sale of their personal information, the business must notify all third parties to whom it has sold the personal information of the California resident within the prior 90 days that the California resident has exercised their right to opt-out of the sale of their personal information and instruct the third party not to further sell the personal information.

In order to address this requirement, MaxMind has created a “Do Not Sell” page containing the IP addresses of any California residents who have exercised their right to opt-out of the sale of their personal information with MaxMind. The “Do Not Sell” page is available from your MaxMind account portal at https://www.maxmind.com/en/accounts/current/do-not-sell-requests. Once you log into your account you can navigate to this page by clicking on the Do Not Sell My Personal Information Requests link from the left-hand navigation menu. We are also working on a notification method via API, more details to come to soon.

The “Do Not Sell” page constitutes our instruction to you that, to the extent any transfer of personal information by MaxMind to you of a California resident listed on the “Do Not Sell” page constitutes a sale, you are not to further sell such personal information. Without limiting your obligations under the CCPA, MaxMind requires that, at a minimum, the IP addresses and networks listed on the “Do Not Sell” page must not be used in your products or services for marketing or advertising purposes. As a GeoIP2/GeoLite2 User, it is your obligation to check the “Do Not Sell” page on at least a weekly basis, and ensure your compliance with the CCPA. To help make this process easier, MaxMind is working on a mechanism by which you can programmatically receive updates to the page.

By continuing to use the GeoIP2/GeoLite2 services, you agree to comply with our instructions and not use any information on the “Do Not Sell” page except as strictly necessary to effectuate the California residents’ requests.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at legal@maxmind.com.

          Regards,
          MaxMind Team

Just tried to register at MinMind and it complained about email should not disposable (I used a protonmail one), and about connecting via a proxy or VPN... really? so they want my ISP IP and they don't like ProtonMail, etc... Well I'd like to offer some work in adapting or creating a 2nd option for the import process to another geolocation provider. Can't be that hard.

So an email address that anyone can create and no need to provide any info - yeah that is by very definition disposable..

Same thing with VPN - you could be anyone.. So how would they know they can let you know when your suppose to purge some info about an IP ;)

So per the law that they are supposedly trying to adhere too.. If billy bob says not to track his IP... They need to let the people know that might have info you know that his IP Is in CA, to remove it from their systems <rolleyes>

Its the stupidest thing hear of ever to be honest.. I don't see how it is suppose to do anything, and an IP does not automatically tie to a person anyway. If I know that IP address X is in say San Diego, CA - how do I know that its billy? And or who billy is in the first place, etc.

The real reason you couldn't register is not so much that the email address you used was a disposable address, but that you were most likely using a vpn or proxy so that your IP address of your location that they received did not match the location of your ISP when you tried to register. Both of them have to match otherwise they will reject your registration. In other words, do not use a VPN or proxy when trying to signup for an account on their website.

Had you bothered to read @BBcan177 message concerning signing up for an account and/or the instructions on their Maxmind's website, you would have known this as it is pointed out in both places to help eliminate these registration problems.

Edit: All of this location checking only matters during the registration process. As @johnpoz points out in another message concerning this post, this is all a bunch of BS because once you are registered, you can sign in on their website using a VPN or proxy and they could care less where you are located.

Actually when some other agency or corporation gets MinMind customer database plus the ISP databases that nowadays you can bet are automatically available... yes then someone could have a complete picture... it amazes me how people don't care about privacy and don't seem to understand that no privacy means no democracy... Do we still value democracy over money or convenience?
You don't know what actually MinMind is... so I suggest updating pfblockerng to use another geolocation database and prepare it to accept more easily other options. There's always the possibility of a fork.
