I have 3 VPN Clients for a commercial VPN provider grouped together in a "Gateway Group" for load-balancing. Unbound is used as the DNS Resolver. Everything works as expected. I just need a clarification on DNS Leak Test Results.

When I do a DNS Leak Test without the forwarding option, the results show all the VPN servers I am connected to (3 of them). If I change this to forwarder mode, the DNS Leak Test shows the DNS servers I have entered under "System -> General Setup" and some more IPs from the DNS provider (which I haven't entered). Luckily none from my ISP.

I guess in both cases there are no DNS Leaks. Why are the results different in both modes - In resolver mode, the VPN server IP displayed and not the root server IPs and in forwarder mode the DNS server IPs?
